Role Based Administration, Not Just Another Three Letter Acronym
Feedback form is now closed.

Role Based Administration (RBA) in System Center Configuration Manager (ConfigMgr) is a critical mechanism for most organizations. It enables a divide and conquer approach to administration by controlling visibility and manageability of nearly all objects in the ConfigMgr console. RBA is also key to preventing mishaps in any organization where there are distinct separate responsibilities or even [gasp] a lack of trust between admins. Configuring RBA though is bit a cumbersome as there is no hierarchy of non-collection objects and thus there is no inheritance of controls and permissions on these objects. We’ll dive as deep as we dare into everything you need to know to implement RBA successfully along with the various caveats, exceptions, and things to avoid. We’ll also walk through common scenarios to help solidify what RBA actually is, how is actually works, and why you should be using it even in smaller organizations.

What you will learn:
  • Why RBA is not Role based access control (RBAC) and what it actually does.
  • Why you should use RBA.
  • How to successfully implement RBA.
  • Kim is a kieken.
